Autobus Oberbayern is taking a further step towards climate protection and sustainability. Since August this year, the environmentally friendly fuel HVO100 (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) has been used on the airport line “Lufthansa Express Bus”, and from November 2024 the entire coach fleet will be operated with it.
HVO100 is an innovative, synthetic diesel fuel made from renewable raw materials such as vegetable oils, animal fats and used cooking oils. Processing with hydrogen produces a fuel that is similar to fossil diesel but allows for significantly cleaner combustion. With a CO₂ reduction of up to 90 percent and a significant reduction of pollutants such as particulates, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide, HVO100 offers an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional diesel.
“For us, switching to HVO100 is an important step towards further reducing CO₂ emissions and a key building block on the road to carbon-neutral mobility,” says Nico Schoenecker, Managing Director at Autobus Oberbayern. ”Despite the higher costs compared to conventional diesel, we see this as a worthwhile investment in an even more sustainable fleet operation.”
By using HVO100, Autobus Oberbayern will save around 3,786 tons of CO₂ annually, thus further advancing its own sustainability strategy.
